How Lazy Recruiting Is Hurting Your Brand

Ever felt like your recruiting messages are just adding to the noise?

This week, I’m tackling a major issue: spam messages in recruiting and why they’re falling flat.

Why Spam Texts Fail

Many recruiting leaders are relying on generic, spammy texts that do more harm than good. Here are some real examples:

Example 1:

“Hello [Name], at [Company] again. Before I throw in the towel, I had to try you one more time and let you know, we really see something in you. Can you squeeze me in this week for a call? Reply STOP to opt out.”

This screams spam! It’s impersonal and clearly sent to a mass audience.

Example 2:

“Hi [Name], your current setup could be awesome or less than perfect. I’m not trying to convince you to make a move, just letting you know there’s interest. Would you be against a conversation? My interest is peaked.”

Tentative language and a meme? Not the way to build professional relationships.

Example 3:

“Are you open to options to be more successful in 2023? Call or text me today at [Number]. Our company is doing fantastic, we should discuss an offer if you aren’t happy where you’re at.”

Thousands of people got this message. It’s anything but personal.

The Key to Effective Recruiting

Using quality data and crafting personalized, meaningful communication is crucial. Here’s how you can turn things around:

  1. Lead with Affirmation: Specific, genuine praise builds trust.

“Hey [Name], I noticed you’re one of the top (product) producers in the U.S. Congrats! I’d love to chat about how we handle (product). I’m convinced I can help you grow your business in this area.”

  2. Quality Over Quantity: Focus on meaningful, targeted messages rather than mass spam.

  3. Use Data Wisely: Combine your data with thoughtful strategy to stand out.

Action Steps for Recruiting Leaders

  • Review Your Current Messages: Are they personal? Do they add value?

  • Incorporate Specific Data Points: Tailor your messages based on the recruit’s achievements and industry specifics.

  • Develop a Strong Strategy: Invest time in creating sequences that highlight your unique value proposition.

Incorporate these tips and watch your recruiting success soar. Remember, it’s about building real, meaningful connections.
