Value Gap

Create Your Own Value Gap

If you were to build a Dream 100 list of the top people you wanted to recruit and found them on social media there would be nothing stopping you from connecting with them, and bringing them value.

You can do that with this framework of 4C’s.

Connection: Find the individual on social media and follow/connect.

Content: Create daily content that is centered around your  5 personas.  What are the top things that best represent you.  For me it’s 1) Husband. 2) Father to 4 children. 3) Outdoorsman who loves to fish and hunt. 4) Recruiting coach. 5) Recruiting consultant/strategist.

Communicate: Engage with these people through your news feeds and inbox.  Bring value before you ever ask for anything in return.  The Law of Reciprocity states that if you bring enough value people feel inclined to return the value.

Conversion:  Look at social media as business tools that should generate business for you.  Bring value three times and then ask for a non-recruiting 15 minute meeting to get to know them for the future.

The key to success is committing to all 4Cs not just conversion.  Too many people see social media as a hack to getting what they want which is a connection that brings them value.  It’s why most people believe social media doesn’t work for business.

You know ideas are crap without execution.

Here is a way to execute on this over the next 30 days.

1) Build a list of the top 100 people you want to recruit.  Call it your Dream 100 list.  Now find everyone of their social media channels.
2) Connect and/or follow them on social media.

3) Create daily content that they would find valuable.  As an example, my audience is leaders who are leading a team while also recruiting top recruits to their team.  So here are some of the items I share.
     – Dos and dont’s of recruiting.

     – Research around recruiting that helps them do more of the right things.

     – Recent conversations I have had where insightful topics came up.

     – Framework that simplifies recruiting.

4) Invest 15 minutes a day communicating with your Dream 100.  Engage with their content.  Share their content.  If they aren’t creating content you can engage with their inbox by sharing items that they would find valuable.  DO NOT create noise by sharing items that they wouldn’t be interested in.  We are drowing in noise today BUT starving for real value.

5) On day 21 send something of real value to them.  Think like a journalist.  I have found some amazing gems over the year doing research.  One of the best interviews I found was Gary Vee and Tom Ferry discussing the top ideas agents should be applying to their business.  Because it was hosted on someone elses youtube channel it only had a few hundred views.  But the 30 minutes they shared was worth thousands of dollars.

6) Now every 5 to 7 days show back up and bring amazing value until you have sent 3 things.

7) Ask for a non-recruiting meeting.  Here is a simple framework for this ask.  Affirm them from some research you have done that leads you to believe they are amazing.  Give them a big reason why you are asking them into a meeting.  An example of this is “the industry is changing dramatically.”  Be prepared to share why you believe that is.  Then close by inviting them into a 15 min meeting where if they said yes, no recruiting allowed simply getting to know each other for the future because if something changes in their career you would be honored to receive a call one day.

This works for anyone looking to recruit someone to their team.  Here is why.  It creates what I call “the value gap.”

Here is my definition of the Value Gap: The distance created by someone who has a strong core value system which leads to them bringing value to people before they ask for anything of value.  If you go back through the steps above that is exactly what you will see.

If you want this to be your best year yet, create your own value gap.  You control every part of this and when you focus on what you control, well, passion follows.  And passionate people are great recruiters because recruiting is simply a transference of passion.

Now get to it!
