Nobody taught Richard to recruit. He lost everything in the 2007 collapse, rebuilt on relationships, and went on to build 18 mortgage teams in three and a half years. Now he teaches recruiting leaders to attract talent instead of chasing it.
Free, live, every other Friday at 12 pm Eastern. No pitch.
Richard Milligan was promoted for producing, the same way most recruiting leaders are, and nobody taught him how to recruit. In his first 11 years in mortgage he grew three teams.
Then the 2007 collapse took his business, his house, and his pride. He rebuilt one relationship at a time, calling past clients to apologize for never following up and asking permission to stay in touch. That habit became Forever Follow-Up.
At the end of 2013 he wrote his first recruiting system, 32 steps from first conversation to final handshake. He stopped selling the company and started inviting people to join him as a leader, and his time to hire dropped from about 2.1 years to 62 days. Over the next three and a half years he built 18 teams.
In 2017 he founded 4C Recruiting with one goal: find the good leaders and teach them to recruit, so they never have to learn it the hard way he did. He is the author of How to Dominate Recruiting in a Digital World and the host of the Recruiting Conversations podcast, and he lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife Leah and their family.
I can't do this for Richard anymore. I have to do this for somebody else.
Richard Milligan, on rebuilding after 2007
Bring a stuck recruit to the Working Lunch and watch Richard coach it live.
Free, live, every other Friday at 12 pm Eastern. No pitch.
Keynotes, workshops, leadership summits, and sales rallies for recruiting leaders in mortgage, real estate, insurance, and wealth management. Before every event, attendees answer a 25-question survey, so Richard walks in knowing exactly where your leaders are stuck.
Producers don't move for a company value proposition. They move toward a leader who can grow their business. Richard shows leaders how to communicate their vision, core values, and greater purpose so the right people come to them. Attendees leave with: A one-page team vision written for the recruit, not the company.
Most first calls trigger resistance in the first sentence. Richard's three-part opener (affirm them, give a big reason, remove the tension) turns a cold call into a 15-minute meeting with no pitch. Attendees leave with: A first-call script and the 15-Minute First Meeting format.
Richard has surveyed about 1,600 leaders. The average cold follow-up list holds 7.3 people, contacted every 9 to 12 months with a just-checking-in message. Forever Follow-Up replaces that with value every month. Attendees leave with: A count of their real list and a monthly value plan.
It's not their job to stay. It's the leader's job to keep them. In 19,000 coaching hours Richard has yet to meet a leader with a retention playbook, so this session builds one, from the first 90 days to surrogate leadership. Attendees leave with: A first-90-days plan for every new hire.
Leaders who throw generic prompts at AI get generic content. Richard shows how to feed AI your own playbook, your voice, and a recruit's real numbers to build value nobody else can send. Attendees leave with: One AI-built value piece for a real recruit.
Formats: keynote, workshop, leadership summit, or virtual session.

Richard Milligan spent 15 years building 21 teams in the mortgage industry before founding 4C Recruiting in 2017. He lost everything in the 2007 collapse, rebuilt on relationships, and figured out recruiting on his own. Today he coaches recruiting leaders to become leaders worth following, then builds the system that brings the right people to them. He has logged 19,000+ coaching hours with more than 3,000 recruiting leaders, wrote How to Dominate Recruiting in a Digital World, and hosts the Recruiting Conversations podcast.
Richard Milligan was promoted for producing, the same way most recruiting leaders are, and nobody taught him how to recruit. For his first 11 years in mortgage he grew three teams. Then the 2007 collapse took his business, his house, and his pride, and forced him to find out what he was working for. At the end of 2013 he built his first written recruiting system. The next year he brought on nine teams and more than 100 originators, and over the next three and a half years he built 18 teams.
In 2017 he left the industry to start 4C Recruiting with one goal: find the good leaders and teach them to recruit, so they never have to learn it the hard way he did. Since then he has logged 19,000+ coaching hours with more than 3,000 recruiting leaders across mortgage, real estate, insurance, and wealth management. His coaching now includes how recruiting leaders use AI to research recruits, build personalized growth plans, and stay in front of their network.
He is the author of How to Dominate Recruiting in a Digital World, the host of the Recruiting Conversations podcast (80,000+ downloads), and a regular speaker for companies that want leaders people choose to follow. He lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife Leah and their family.
